Since the election of moderate cleric Hassan Rohani as Iran’s new president in June 2013, the Iranian economy has experienced a clear momentum.  The economy has left its recessionary phase and has returned to an annual growth, which will reach an estimated 4 percent in 2016.

The position of President Rohani and his political mentor, Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, were further consolidated through the election victories of the moderate forces in the twin polls held on 26 February 2016.  This will mean a continuation of the moderate policies and a gradual improvement of the country’s investment climate.

The goal of this report is to provide a better understanding of the changing ownership structures in key industries, profiles of the main semi-governmental entities, risks and opportunities for international companies, and the attitudes of new owners, as well as the practical limitations of cooperation or investment opportunities with these companies.

It also describes how opportunities can be accessed and explores the perception of the private business sector about these new owners.
